Sheryl Crow is a rock and blues singer whose music spans the genres of rock, blues, pop and country.  Crow also writes music and plays the guitar, the bass and the piano.  Sheryl Crow’s music has appeared on the A&M Records label and the Interscope Records label.

Background

Sheryl Crow was born as Sheryl Suzanne Crow on February 11, 1962 in Kennett, Missouri.  Her interest in music began at a young age.  Sheryl’s father played the trumpet and Sheryl participated in choir and school plays in her youth.  Crow graduated from the University of Missouri with a major in music education and a concentration in piano.  After college, Crow worked as an elementary school music teacher and sang with various bands during her off time.  Eventually, Crow found success singing in advertising jingles for companies such as McDonalds and Toyota.  This success led Crow to move to Los Angeles to pursue a full time music career.  Eventually, Crow found greater success as a backup singer for Michael Jackson, and she toured with him on his Bad tour.  She also sang backup for Don Henley.

Soon Cheryl Crow became professionally involved with producer Bill Bottrell and a song writing collective called “The Tuesday Night Music Club.”  This period of songwriting led to the release of Crow’s breakout album, Tuesday Night Music Club.  Crow won several Grammy Awards after the release of the single “All I Wanna Do” from this album.  Crow then produced her second album, Sheryl Crow, which included songs with blatant political themes.  Soon after, Crow recorded the theme song to the James Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies.”  After a series of other albums, Crow released C’mon C’mon in 2002.  This album was distinctly more pop in nature than Crow’s previous albums.  C’mon C’mon includes the single “Safe & Sound” which Crow performed at a television benefit for the victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001.  Crow’s most recent full length album, Wildflower, is a collection of intimate and introspective songs.  Recently, Crow recorded the track “Real Gone” for the Disney/Pixar film Cars.

Throughout her career, Crow has publicly discussed her bouts with depression.  She publicly opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003.  Crow has appeared in the Hollywood films “The Minus Man” with Owen Wilson and “De-Lovely” with Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd.  She was involved with and engaged to champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, but their engagement ended in early 2006.

Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2006.  Crow supports charities such as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, the Scleroderma Research Foundation and the Delta Childrens Home.
