Josh Groban Corner
Josh Groban is singer whose music spans the pop and classical genres. Groban is best known for his baritone voice.
Background
Josh Groban was born Joshua Winslow Groban on February 27, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. His father is a Jewish descendent of Polish and Russian immigrants. His mother is Norwegian. Groban, himself, was raised as an Episcopalian. Groban attended Interlochen Arts Camp where he majored in musical theater. Eventually, Groban’s vocal coach introduced him to David Foster, the Grammy-winning producer. Groban worked for Foster as a rehearsal singer at events such as the 1999 Grammy Awards and the 1999 Inauguration of Gray Davis as the Governor of California. Josh went on to graduate from Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and attended Carnegie Mellon University for one year.
Groban’s classical style, baritone voice and sense of pop music brought him into the spotlight. Groban signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records through David Foster’s 143 Records and went on to become a popular classical and pop recording and performing artist.
As his fame has grown, Josh Groban has participated in a number of high-profile music performances. He performed with Sarah Brightman on her “La Luna Tour” in 2000 and 2001. He also recorded a song with Lara Fabian for the soundtrack to the Hollywood movie “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.” He has participated in benefit shows such as The Andre Agassi Grand Slam Event for Children (with Elton John, Stevie Wonder and other artists), Muhammad Ali’s First Night Foundation, the “Family Celebration” hosted by the Clintons, David E. Kelley and Michelle Pfeiffer and the CapCure event sponsored by Michael Milken. Groban performed with Charlotte Church at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2002. That year, he also played his own PBS special titled “Josh Groban in Concert,” performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway and participated with other artists such as Sting and Lionel Richie at a holiday concert at the Vatican. Groban performed on the soundtracks to the Hollywood movies “Troy” and “The Polar Express.” He has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Jay Leno,” “Larry King Live,” “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and “The Today Show.” He has also made appearances at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Groban has also made an acting debut. He played Malcolm Wyatt in a few episodes of the hit television series “Ally McBeal.”
